Planning on getting ceramic coating done at an independent that has been recommended - https://azuricarcare.co.uk/ so that not an option unless anyone thinks I’m wasting extra money and the dealer will do a good job.
Don't let an OPC do ceramic coating, it'll be a half-hearted job probably done by the lad who normally washes cars. Ceramic coating needs professional application by a specialist detailer. As for wasting money, I'm not convinced that ceramic coating is value for money at all - it doesn't really protect the paint, but might make it a bit easier to wash.
I think the backlash for OPCs messing up ceramic treatment would be well publicised. But it's not. That's because they rarely do it, or do a good job. I think the latter is more likely 🤔

The ceramic coating usually used by OPCs is Gtechniq "Platinum", which is a product only sold to car dealerships. The coatings used by professional detailers are better quality and, more importantly, the detailer will carry out thorough paint correction prior to coating.

I don’t think OPC’s have done a lot of this historically although it’s probably another money spinner now. The problem is that most people won’t have a frame of reference as to what a good or bad job is, you just end up with a shiny car and without studying it under a detail light quality of coat etc isn’t apparent.
Also an OPC won’t be able to use top of the range products etc as they are proprietary.

On balance, if it were free, I would still go with the OPC.

My OPC is offering this free for my new car. I've accepted their offer and don't anticipate any issues.

As for getting a Ceramic Coating, it depends upon how long you intend to keep the car and how OCD you are.

Long term ownership, get a Pro Detailer to do it and you get a 7 year warranty (or at least I did, but do check).

Short term > 3 years then if the OPC offers it FOC then go that route.

If it is not offered then for short term ownership, just wax it yourself.

Or if you fancy DIY then do lookup “how to” videos and look at the Detailing World forum.

Either way do look up the thread on Washing and Detailing.

As JonA suggested, most people wouldn't know what to look for.

I think the "free" £600 ceramic coating which dealers offer is a commission scam - the sales guy gets commission for selling the coating, but wouldn't receive anything if he knocked £600 off the car's price.

Can I assume you're buying from Porsche Hatfield if looking at Azuri? I plan to have a chat with Azuri at some point to get a quote for mine but from seeing their Instagram page it looks like they do a lot of new car prep for Porsche Hatfield. So may be worth speaking with the dealer on this as you could find they'd just be sending it to Azuri anyway.

I'm definitely not OCD with my car wash regime, but as my new car is black this may help. My dealer normally charges £799 for this so assume some people actually pay for it. I not bothered either way as it's not a long term keeper....

Well I've annoyed my OPC (Teesside) and they say the freebies on my new Macan will be 1/4 tank of fuel, a Porsche branded coffee flask, and key rings for both cars

The OPC is a JCT600 franchise, so not sure how that matches up

A quarter of a tank. They must be joking!!!

I opted for the larger fuel tank and my OPC still completely filled it.
