Hi, I’m sure this has been discussed but can anyone help please. I want to upgrade my 19” alloys to 20” - I’ve seen a set of new Gen 3 OEM wheels which have the same PCD and offsets (26 and 19 resp). Porsche Newcastle has said Gen 3 wheels are not compatible with Gen 1 cars.

Is there any specific reason for this? Safety? I’ve uploaded a pic of the Gen 3 wheels. Thank you.

Welcome to our friendly forum! :)

Have you asked the Service Manager of your OPC for the reason that they say they’re unsuitable? :geek:

A possible reason is that 20" are wider and may rub on full lock on the Gen1

Aren't the tyres for 20" rims identical for Gen1 and Gen3?

Thank you for welcoming me.

Firstly, I spoke to the service manager at two separate Porsche garages. Both said that the RS Spyder wheels are the only endorsed 20” version for a Gen 1 Macan. But they couldn’t offer any technical reasoning.

Secondly, I was of the view that all 20” wheels were 10J and 9J respectively. Therefore all tyres would be the same size. Is that not the case perhaps?

Tyre sizes are all the same for all ICE Macan versions and rim diameters. Other factors come into play like disc sizes.

Thanks Steve, makes sense. My front discs are 350mm and rears are 330mm. Not sure if those are bigger or smaller than a new Gen 3 model. I assume calipers will be proportional too.

For the Gen 1 Macan 18" and 19" wheels were 8J front and 9J rear. According to the website below, you're right that for 20" wheels it was 9J front and 10J rear.

It would seem nothing has changed for all variants of the Macan.

Thanks Peter, useful guide. From it, I cannot see any reason that a gen 3 20” wheel should not be compatible with a Gen 1 model - unless the brake discs / calipers are different sizes - but then I would expect the wheels to have different sizing or offset data to accommodate - and they don’t.

Total BS, on Gen 1 the standard 20” wheels were not Spyders, they were the GT Design as seen in the image.

If memory serves me correctly there were three or four 20” permutations available.
