Hello.
This isn’t just my first post on the Macan forum, it’s my first post on any forum! Apologies if I don’t get things quite right.
Due my first Porsche in early March. Very excited but very confused by the world of insurance. Be grateful for any tips - go with Porsche insurance, is gap insurance a good idea?
Thanks
Jace
Macan any day now!
Welcome!
Insurance is a minefield; just get a few quotes and see what sort of premiums are being suggested. There's evidence that some negotiation on price can be successful. Porsche insurance is likely to be pricey (like anything else with "Porsche" attached to it!).
Gap insurance can be worthwhile, it rather depends on your views on risk, perhaps bearing in mind where you live and where you park your car. If you want gap insurance, buy from a specialist (there's a link in the header of the forum) - don't buy from your Porsche dealer, you'll pay too much.

Hello and thanks for your response. Porsche quoting around £1,400 for first year’s cover. They’re very persuasive saying they’ll ensure any repairs are made with Porsche parts, down to paint and windscreen and any garage used is Porsche approved. Current insurer said they cannot guarantee that and they doubt any insurer other than Porsche will.
With most insurers, you can request that your car goes to a specific approved bodyshop. Many parts are exclusive to Porsche, so they'll have to use Porsche parts. Windscreens are just lumps of glass, nothing special about having a Porsche logo on it - Porsche don't make windscreens!Coffeerun wrote: ↑Wed Feb 28, 2024 4:44 pm Hello and thanks for your response. Congrats. We ordered a few months ago for September delivery, as we are just seeing out our existing lease cars before buying his 'n hers - Macan S and a GTS - outright this time round. I've done some looking around and the ALA gap offer on this forum is excellent value. Go for the full replacement cost as opposed to 'back to invoice' and our quote (on the GTS) was 600 Back to invoice or 1200 Full replacement for 4 years' cover. Not bad when you consider Porsche's last price increase was around 7%!! Pays for itself (on paper) if you ask me. Though I'd rather not ever have to make use of it, I know I'll be able to get a same spec, brand new, vehicle in the future. One 'risky' bit is exactly when Porsche will drop the ICE Macan altogether; so you could end up writing off a GTS and climbing into an EV instead! Pics when you collect your car please

Before you buy any GAP insurance check your car insurance. Most will replace a written off car in the first year - and some will even offer that for 2 years. Some will do it up to a maximum price - so once you've decided on you insurer then decide on GAP insurance.
By the way what Macan are you getting?
