Some will do it up to a maximum price - so once you've decided on you insurer then decide on GAP insurance......
Also according to Direct Line..

Last year, it is estimated that nearly 34,000 claims were made on vehicles less than five years old...

There are 34m cars on the road so 1 in a 1000 are written off

A claim isn’t necessarily a write off.

Although sort of accurate, having a 3rd party windscreen fitted will either invalidate the warranty OR you MAY have to go to Porsche anyway to have the sensors (can’t recall if they were adaptive CC sensors or something else) located on the interior of the screen be recalibrated
Ask me how I know 🤣

To expand. There were 380k cars written off in 2022 of which 34k were under 5 years old. The majority are written off on cost to repair being greater than MV and filter back into the market. Newer cars are more likely to be repaired by the insurance company as the MV is much higher.

GAP insurance is a very good upsell for a 1000:1 risk.

Interesting data, so assuming first year is already covered by regular insurance and then the number of write-offs are a fraction of the 34,000 claims, it is likely that GAP insurance could be of value to 1 in 5,000+ cars.

Maybe better to get £250 worth of lottery tickets?

Missed this response - but the point still stands to some degree - the risk is likely less than 1000:1.

It’s a Macan T, can’t wait!
Did you have a good test drive before you ordered?

Yes if only 3800 1 or 2 yr old cars were written off the odds would be 10000 to 1

My wife picks up her 24 plate Macan S next week (middle aged lady in the Midlands…) and we insured with AA Platinum for c. £450.
