Can’t seem to find an answer using the search function, but does anyone know roughly how the lifespan of PCCBs compare with steel discs (assume similar use), and what the cost is for replacement carbon ceramic discs? (and pads as likely to replace them at the same time).

Looking at a car that has them - it’s a bit of an outside chance, but spotted it has PCCB spec'd  and that might be a factor to put me off!

Off the top of my head maybe 100,000 miles and say £10k to replace discs & pads, maybe more.

I would try Googling it though. ;)

Definitely something to buy on condition then, but not out of the question perhaps. Thanks.

They're definitely PCCBs? Just asking as many Macans have PSCBs

Yep definitely PCCBs - this is a Gen 1 car I’m looking at. Pricey option at north of £5k

Ah. I see why you're asking if they're a few years old now

Absolutely something to check on regarding condition as if they need replacing the inevitable warranty response will be ‘wear and tear’ items and cost will be for your pocket.

I’ve never had carbon brakes so I’d also be getting guidance on how to look after them, but I don’t think I’d rule out a car that has them.

Good luck.

Very rare option on a Macan!

Possibly a plus if you get them inspected and they are say <25% worn but I would worry about eye watering replacement cost if they are 50% or more worn

That’s the thing you see, with the used vehicles I’m looking at, I’m kind of factoring in a new set of pads/discs being required in the not too distant future (outside of the purchase cost), so unless the seller confirms that they have recently been replaced (like yours for instance), then I’ve got to have a good look at them.

You can replace PCCB discs with aftermarket steel items, but it’s still best part of £2k per axle to do so, which is probably twice the price of standard / OEM steel discs, and I’d imagine Porsche Warranty would flag up non PCCB discs on a PCCB spec’d car.

Still looking and learning :)

Pads need to be replaced more often potentially as they have to be binned earlier

There are good alternatives if you don’t have the warranty https://www.surfacetransforms.com/
