Awaiting the arrival of Macan 4 (Turbo) in September, been missing the 991, so decided to buy a cheap runaround - 996 C4S Tip - the next porsche predicted to jump up in price.

Initial impressions, fun sports car with the usual 911 ingredients, it's easy to live with - Power Steering, Auto gearbox, Heated memory seats, cruise etc. Its not quite as fast as my 991 C4GTS but its still pretty quick.

It also has a pretty nice back end, as its the Carrera 4S with the wide turbo body and reflective strip on the back.

Cool...wise move. I'm looking as well...been told to get manual version. even 997 are going cheap, tempted to go 997 prefer the shape.

Did think about 997 but have been reading about values and although 997 still depreciating albeit slowly, 996 now appreciating. I too would have gone manual if it wasn't for the fact that its going to be my daily driver.

I've read that 996 GT3 and Turbo prices may rise , but that other models will just see stable but low levels if depreciation. Could you post any ref you have, I'm always looking for a surefire investment. Thnks !!

If you buy a 996/997 just be aware of IMS and bore score issues though guys.

If you look at the March 16 issue of GTPORSCHE - there is an article titled 996vsCayman, it talks about values for 996s appreciating. All the dealers are also talking about it.

MacS - yes a relatively common problem on 996 naturally aspirated engines, I checked out the one I bought and it's had replacements put in. I made sure I bought one with a solid service history and its only done 50k.

The 996 was a pile a crap over the 993, so dunno what all this talk is of appreciation, the C4S is a nice looking machine, but 997 over a '6 for me.Triple72016-06-19 21:30:31

Nice looking machine, sounds like you have been diligent getting a reliable vehicle.

Not sure you will get appreatiation in such a short time (unless you intend to continue to keep it in the garage for sunny days) but will be interested to see how you get on with it.
