Hello All
I have recently bought a new 2017 Macan S Diesel here in Stockholm.
The winter is about to set in and so I have to consider new winter tyres.
The ones suggested by the dealer seem to be very expensive and not practical -
18" Michelin X Ice with or without spikes - GBP 3000
19" Michelin X Ice with or without spikes - GBP 3500 or Dunlop GBP 3800

The dealer mentioned that for longer journeys, cross country , the spikes are essential but the trouble is, the Swedish Govt has banned winter spiked tyres in certain city centre areas due to concerns about the environment!

Is there a better alternative which does not fall foul of the Swedish Law but is also safe to drive longer distances?

Many thanks!

Take a trip to the UK, pick up a set of 18" wheels with winters fitted for about £1600, or have DHL courier them to you. Have a look at Tequipment on a UK Porsche site. Import duty maybe?

Isn't it cheaper to get a return on a Ferry into the UK, drive to the nearest dealer where you have organised a set of 18" winter rims and tyres to be fitted?? The set of 18" (including fitting) comes to just over £1,700. I doubt it will cost you £1,400 to get the ferry here. On the way back you'll have the original set of rims with summer tyres in the back. Job done....

I wonder how damaging to the environment a crashed vehicle with oil spill and casualties would be!!

Spikes (studs actually) are not required at all, regardless of the length of journey!
If you're on normal roads with snow on, they are not needed.
They are also dangerous to use on any cleared roads you might encounter.

Proper winter tyres will get you everywhere, even with a light two wheel drive car.
Add more weight and 4x4 and you're never going to have a problem on snowy roads!

We bought a second hand set of oem 18" wheels, some Porsche TPMS sensors and a set of Continental NO tyres.
It came to about £1280 fitted.

At those numbers, I'd be planning a nice weekend away

Hi Nav,

I was in Stockholm last week. It looked like a sleigh and huskies would have been a better bet than a Macan!? Andyglos2016-11-13 19:53:42

In the latest 2017 Porsche Winter Wheels Catalogue, the fitted cost for a set 18 inch wheels with winter tyres is quoted as £2003 inc vat.
